DESCRIPTION:Guildhouse\, in partnership with Nexus Arts\, is delighted to present Introduction to Creative Workplaces + Arts Law – a practical professional development session designed to support artists to work with confidence\, and build fair\, safe and respectful creative careers. \nHear from Creative Workplaces and Arts Law as they share practical guidance on: \n\nWorking confidently in creative workplaces\nContracts and payments\nLicensing and copyright for artists\n\nThe session will conclude with one hour of networking – a chance to connect with peers\, presenters and representatives from Creative Workplaces\, Arts Law\, Guildhouse\, Nexus Arts and Create SA. \nYou’ll also have the chance to submit questions ahead of time\, ensuring the content is tailored to the needs of South Australian artists and arts workers. \nThis event will be recorded and shared with Guildhouse Members following the session\, thanks to our partners at Nexus Arts. \n  \nSpeakers: \nLouise Buckingham\, Chief Executive Officer\, Arts Law \nLouise Buckingham is the CEO of the Arts Law Centre of Australia. She is a lawyer and academic who has specialised in intellectual property and human rights and worked in commercial and in-house roles across the corporate and not-for-profit sectors in Sydney\, London and California (beginning at Corrs Chambers Westgarth\, Sydney\, and most recently in the award-winning Tech + IP and Innovation teams at Gilbert + Tobin with several years as the Senior Lawyer at the Australian Copyright Council and an editor of the Copyright Reporter along the way). She is committed to the arts and creators’ rights\, and lectures in NSW IP and cultural heritage and ‘art law’ in law\, arts and science faculties. \n  \nPatrick McCarthy\, Manager\, Strategic Initiatives and Engagement\, Creative Australia \nPatrick McCarthy is an arts sector leader and theatre-maker. He is currently the Manager of Strategic Initiatives and Engagement in the Creative Workplaces team at Creative Australia. From 2021 to 2024\, he was Executive Director of the Victorian Association of Performing Arts Centres. Prior to this role he held leadership positions with peak industry bodies in the civil construction and higher education sectors. In 2023-24\, he was Co-Convenor of the Arts Industry Council of Victoria and Convenor of the Performing Arts Presenters Associations consortium. He has also worked extensively as a playwright and director for over 15 years\, collaborating with some of Melbourne’s most acclaimed actors and designers. He holds post-graduate qualifications in both playwriting and policy development and is passionate about building a stronger and more connected arts sector.
