SUMMARY:Aboriginal Cultural Safety in Professional Practice Facilitated by Pirlpa
DESCRIPTION:Paul belongs to the Warlpiri Aboriginal nation\, located in the Tanami Desert of the Northern Territory. In his early twenties\, he returned to his community\, fulfilling all cultural responsibilities while working on country. Now residing in Adelaide with his family\, he has a long-standing career in forensic mental health. He earned a Master’s degree in Narrative Therapy and Community Work from Melbourne University and has presented at numerous local\, national\, and international conferences. His mission is to share his distinct cultural insights and experiences in a manner that honours his heritage and resonates with others. Paul’s lived experience and cultural knowledge is unique and when combined with his extensive work in forensic mental health\, this workshop will leave you with a greater awareness of Aboriginal culture and how to address issues with confidence. \nJoin Paul Herbert in this specialised workshop designed for professionals and others seeking a profound awareness of Aboriginal cultural values\, beliefs\, and practices\, along with practical skills\, strategies and methods for use with Aboriginal people\, families and communities. He will thoroughly explore traditional Aboriginal culture and practices\, illustrating their relevance to contemporary professional practice and service delivery in this unparalleled and unique event. He will explain how you can use this cultural knowledge to enhance your awareness and improve outcomes. \nRecently\, Paul undertook a significant task of building cultural safety into forensic mental health services\, by documenting a strategic report compiling over 30 individual initiatives designed to enhance cultural safety in the workplace. Most of these initiatives are unique\, simple and effective but remain high impact\, low cost. At this workshop you will have an opportunity to discuss this groundbreaking piece of work. \nParticipants will acquire skills and engage in discussions about: \n\nTraditional Aboriginal culture\, custom and practices\nUnderstanding kinship systems and how to use them\nThe Aboriginal spiritual model of health and well-being\nThe Aboriginal approach to learning and how to apply it\nAboriginal law and the justice system\nEffective communication strategies\nBuilding cultural safety in the workplace\nCultural skills\, techniques\, methods and strategies that you can use\nNavigating complex interactions with Aboriginal clients\nGuidelines for visiting remote communities\nEnhancing cultural safety in professional settings\nAnalysing case studies and engaging in scenario-based activities\nAnd much more.\n\nThis workshop offers a distinctive chance to refine your skills and broaden your knowledge while deepening your appreciation for Aboriginal cultures and communities. \nTo view amazing feedback from past workshops\, visit Paul’s LinkedIn page. \nWith limited seats\, secure your spot today for this invaluable learning opportunity!
